Over the years we have come to rely on vital pieces of equipment to enable us to keep our Sanctuary paddocks clear of the many droppings. These are our Paddock Sweepers, which save so much time compared to doing the same job manually. Unfortunately our existing sweepers have now reached the end of their useful lives!
Our summer grazing fields, where each animal has around an acre of grass, are harrowed (to break up the dung) during the warmer months and/or rested during the winter. They are then naturally ready to be grazed again by the following spring. However, on the many paddocks at our Sanctuaries which are in use all year-round, we do our best to ensure the droppings are regularly cleared. This helps prevent a high horse worm burden and encourages the grass to grow for the horses to graze on. This is where our ‘sweepers’, which we have had for many years, are so important but they are now constantly breaking down and costing far too much to maintain.
Ideally we would need four or five new ‘sweepers’ for our various farm locations. At a cost of around £5000 each, this is quite a large expense, but we know they will repay their worth many times over during the years to come. If this is something you would like to help with, we would be very grateful to receive any donations, however small, that we could put towards the cost of these vital machines. Thank you for caring.
