As we approach Christmas we have been asked to help an elderly sanctuary owner who can no longer carry on due to her declining health.
Kath Wilson, founder of the Derwent Valley Donkey Sanctuary, has devotedly cared for animals all her life and even won community awards for her work. However, following a tragic accident that left her hospitalised, her friends have contacted Hillside, asking for our urgent help. No longer able to manage her sanctuary, which is home to eight donkeys and also horses, ponies, sheep, dogs and hens, Kath is desperate to find a safe home for her beloved animals. While the dogs and hens have been found homes locally, we have been asked to help with the donkeys, horses, ponies and sheep.
We always do our best to take in animals in need and face great challenges raising the funds to look after them. It would be easy for us to say ‘there is no room at the inn’ but, in the spirit of kindness and compassion at this festive time, we have, of course, agreed to give them a new home at Hillside...
If you would like to help with this Christmas rescue, any donations kindly received will go towards the winter feed and care of these animals, and all the other animals who live here at the Sanctuary.
A DONATION CAN ALSO BE EASILY AND QUICKLY PLACED BY TELEPHONE ON 01603 736200 (9am-9pm 7 days a week).
